Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) needs are quickly becoming a top issue for healthcare organizations, especially as the push for nationwide interoperability continues to grow. Improving CDI will have long-lasting effects on the industry, impacting both providers and patients.
Payers and providers need to work more closely than ever to meet the demands of value-based care, but communication, duplication and workflow overload pose barriers to collaboration. Payer portals were developed to streamline interaction, but challenges remain.
Changing payment models, quality programs, disease management, care coordination and so on have necessitated dramatic changes for the exchange of clinical data between providers and health plans. Administrative and financial data is by and large standardized, and the technology is in place for that interchange.
